Staying in the Valle d'Itria — centred on Alberobello, Locorotondo and Cisternino — gives you the olive groves, the trulli and the inland masserie within a short drive, which suits travelers who want depth over breadth. Splitting the week adds the Baroque cities of Lecce and the sea at Otranto but costs two check-ins and thirty minutes of daily driving. For a first visit focused on the table, we generally recommend rooting in one area and taking day excursions; for a second visit or longer stay, the divided itinerary rewards handsomely.
How to do it well
