Three nights of Big Five safari in the Sabi Sand, then six on an island in the Bazaruto Archipelago — the honeymoon that gives you the bush at dawn and the Indian Ocean by afternoon, without a single long drive in between.

Why three nights in the bush and six on the island?
Because the two halves ask different things of you. A safari runs on early starts: out before sunrise, back for breakfast, out again at four. Three nights is enough to see leopard, lion and elephant in the Sabi Sand, where private reserves share an unfenced border with Kruger and vehicles can leave the track to follow a sighting. The island is the opposite rhythm — no alarm, no schedule — and it needs time to work. Six nights lets the first two be rest and the last four be the honeymoon you came for.
How do you get from Kruger to the island?
By air, in one morning. A light aircraft flies from the Kruger region to Vilanculos on the Mozambique coast, and a helicopter covers the last ten minutes to Benguerra Island, over the turquoise channels of the Bazaruto marine park. Pack soft bags: light aircraft carry a strict weight limit per person, and your advisor confirms it for each leg.
Which island, and which room?
For a honeymoon, Benguerra. Kisawa Sanctuary holds eight residences on 300 hectares of forest, dune and beach — space measured in kilometres of coast, not metres of terrace. &Beyond Benguerra Island is smaller in scale and barefoot in spirit, with casinhas a few steps from the water. Anantara, on Bazaruto Island itself, has more facilities and suits families better than couples.
What fills the island days?
A traditional dhow under sail between the islands, with lunch on a sandbank that exists only at low tide — which is why your advisor plans the day around the tide tables, not the clock. Snorkelling on the reefs of a national park protected since 1971. And, if you are lucky and patient, a glimpse of a dugong: Bazaruto holds the last viable population on Africa's east coast, so a sighting is never promised.
When should you go?
May to October, the dry season, for calm seas, clear water and cool safari mornings. Choose August or September and humpback whales pass the islands; choose October to April for whale sharks, which are present but never guaranteed. Your advisor matches the dates to the camps' availability, which in the best rooms fills a year ahead.

Questions, answered.
Nine or ten nights is the balance we recommend: three on safari to see the Big Five without rushing, and six on the island so the slower half has time to settle in.
Benguerra Island, for privacy. Kisawa Sanctuary offers eight residences on 300 hectares; &Beyond Benguerra Island is smaller and more barefoot. Bazaruto Island's Anantara resort is better suited to families.
A light aircraft from the Kruger region to Vilanculos, then a short helicopter or boat transfer to the island — all in a single morning, with soft luggage.
May to October for dry weather and calm seas. August and September add the humpback whale migration past the islands.
