Whether to time this journey around Salone del Mobile or visit in a quieter month
Salone del Mobile in April brings the full creative energy of the city — showroom openings, installations across the Tortona and Lambrate districts, and access to events that are genuinely closed to the public. However, the finest luxury hotels in central Milan sell out twelve to fourteen months in advance for that week, and the city itself is at full stretch. September and October offer the same ateliers and institutions with greater intimacy, shorter lead times, and the advantage of Milan Fashion Week, which runs in late September and opens different doors entirely. We advise clients to decide first which world they want to enter — design or fashion — and build the journey from there.
How to do it well
The counsel our advisors give travelers planning this journey:
- Book your Last Supper viewing slot a minimum of three months in advance; for Salone del Mobile week, six months is the realistic floor and even then access is curated, not guaranteed.
- Salone del Mobile falls in the second week of April each year — confirm the exact dates for your year of travel as early as January, since hotel availability collapses within days of the announcement.
- For atelier appointments along the Quadrilatero, your advisor should make contact with the brand's private client office no fewer than six weeks ahead; same-week requests are almost never accommodated at this level.
- The Fondazione Prada is closed on Tuesdays — schedule it for a Wednesday or Thursday morning when attendance is lightest and the staff have more latitude to engage with a small private group.
