Gora sits higher, giving you the Fuji view above the tree line and direct access to the Hakone Tozan railway's maple corridor, which peaks in the second and third weeks of November. The Moto-Hakone shore puts you at the water's edge for the torii reflections and the cedar avenue walks, but Fuji is more often screened by the ridge. Our approach is to hold two consecutive ryokan stays — three nights in each position — so the journey itself marks the shift in season as you move through the landscape rather than anchor to one point.
