The windward Atlantic coast receives more swell in winter and is better suited to surfers than to those seeking reef swimming or flat-water kayaking. A single night's drive between the two takes under an hour on the mountain road, so a split stay is entirely workable if variety matters. We generally advise anchoring your base on the leeward side and scheduling one excursion east rather than dividing luggage between properties.
