The Best Time to Visit the Maldives — a Luxury, Month-by-Month Guide
When the seas are calmest, the skies clearest and the islands at their most private — and what a bespoke Maldives stay starts from. A from-price, never a final one: the Maldives rewards being timed to you.
- The dry season (roughly November–April) brings the calmest seas, clearest skies and best visibility — the prime window for a luxury Maldives stay.
- The green season (May–October) is quieter and more private, with lower rates and excellent manta and whale-shark sightings, at the cost of occasional rain.
- December–March is peak: book the finest overwater villas and private-island buy-outs eight to twelve months ahead.
- Honeymooners favour the dry season; divers and value-seekers often prefer the green months.
- As an indicative guide, a luxury Maldives stay starts from around US$1,500 per night — final cost depends entirely on the villa, the island and the season.
- We time the trip to your priorities — privacy, diving, or weather — and secure the right island for those dates.
The two seasons that shape a Maldives trip
The Maldives has two moods. The dry season (north-east monsoon, roughly November to April) brings calm seas, clear skies and superb underwater visibility — the classic postcard Maldives. The green season (south-west monsoon, May to October) is warmer and wetter, with short tropical downpours, but also fewer guests, softer rates and some of the year's best marine life. Neither is wrong; each suits a different traveler.
Month by month
December to March is the driest, calmest and most sought-after — and the most expensive. April is a sweet spot: still dry, very warm, just before the crowds thin. May to July sees more rain but excellent value and privacy. August to October brings the green-season highlight — manta rays and whale sharks gathering — between the showers. We match the month to what matters most to you.
Best time for honeymoons, diving and privacy
For a honeymoon, the dry season's calm water and clear sunsets are hard to beat. For diving and snorkeling, visibility peaks in the dry months, while the green season concentrates the big pelagics. For absolute privacy and value, the shoulder and green months quietly outperform — the same islands, far fewer people.
What a luxury Maldives stay starts from
As a luxury travel advisory, we quote a starting point, not a fixed price — the Maldives varies enormously by villa, island and season. As an indicative guide, a bespoke stay typically starts from around US$1,500 per night, rising for overwater villas with private pools, whole-island buy-outs and private-jet or seaplane arrival. We share the from-figure candidly upfront and design the final experience around you.
How we plan it
